About the publication

Everything has a price. We find the reason.

The American Money Trap is a new, independent financial documentary and investigative media brand. We explain the hidden economics of American life, the financial incentives behind businesses, and the systems that shape how people earn, spend and lose money.

Our work is published first as long-form documentaries on YouTube, each with a companion article here that lists its sources.

Independent by design

The American Money Trap connects financial documentary storytelling with companion research, sources and practical resources. Our editorial focus is simple: explain the incentives behind the price tag, in plain language.

Our reporting is organized around three pillars: The Hidden Economics (why everyday life costs what it does), Follow the Money (how companies earn, and who pays), and The Collapse (why businesses and industries rise and fail).

Our editorial standards explain our research, production methods, use of illustrative artwork and approach to corrections.

We plan to fund our work through our own digital products — guides, reports and tools — which are not yet available. We do not accept payment for coverage, and we have no sponsors or affiliate partnerships today. If that changes, our affiliate disclosure will say so.

What we commit to

01

Explain the system

We look past the price tag to the incentives behind it: who sets the cost, who profits, and why the system works the way it does.

02

Earn trust with sources

Every published investigation lists what it relies on, preferably primary sources. Strong headlines, verifiable answers.

03

Tell it well

Serious subjects deserve compelling storytelling. We aim for documentaries you want to finish — without sacrificing accuracy.

04

Fix mistakes openly

We will get things wrong. When we do, we correct the record and say what changed.

Our content is educational and is not financial, legal or tax advice. Questions, tips or corrections are welcome.
